My first fashion article on how to dress Chanel

Many of us know the names of famous designers, like Coco Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Gucci. We also know they are very expensive. [But there is a way to rock the top designer fashion trends, without paying designer prices.]

Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel loved stripes, pearls, quilted leather handbags, and gold chains. If someone was to go to a Chanel store wanting to buy a handbag or clothes, they would be paying about 1,000 dollars or more to start. One does not have to pay nearly that much to get the Chanel look.

Coco Chanel spent time in Deauville France and would see the fisherman in their striped sweaters with their nets capturing the night’s delicacies. From this she developed a love of the sailor image. You can buy striped jersey shirts (jersey is a soft, thin cotton material), at stores like Forever 21 or H&M. They cost about $11-$25.

Madame Chanel also loved the look of pearls, and could see them added to almost any outfit. Classic pearls and stripes give a perfect French sailor look. Faux or fake pearls can be found at affordable stores in the mall, like Charming Charlie, Charlotte Russe and similar types of stores. The price range is about $8-$15. You can also find vintage pearls at thrift shops, nice garage sales or even your Grandmother’s jewelry box (but ask her first).

If you want to buy something Authentic Chanel, then a more affordable product would be makeup and beauty products. Her famous Chanel No. 5 perfume costs $74-$130, and is a great product to own, or just sample it at a Chanel Beauty Counter along with her other great fragrances like Chanel Mademoiselle, Allure, Coco and others.

The company also sells lipsticks, nail polishes, eye shadows, and many other beauty products that are sold at department stores like Macy’s, Bloomingdales, Saks Fifth Avenue and Sephora (Sephora will even give you a free sample of any fragrance to try if you ask them to do so). The price range is about $27-$59.

Coco Chanel’s handbags, which are designed by Karl Lagerfeld today, are a classic. The simplest, yet elegant, Chanel bag would be the black quilted leather handbag with the small double C on the front.

Unfortunately, those bags cost a fortune. Many affordable black quilted handbags can be found at Forever 21, Ebay, Charming Charlie or other online sites, and they only cost about $5-$31.

Costume jewelry gold tone necklaces or bracelet chains can be found just about anywhere. Ebay, Amazon, Forever 21, and Macy’s are just a few locations. They cost about $9-$20. Gold tone jewelry goes nicely with black clothing. It brings out the dark color and brightens the outfit with a shiny, metallic color.

Chanel once stated, “Dress shabbily and they remember the dress; dress impeccably and they remember the woman.” Coco Chanel appearances are timeless, unique, and classic. And, Chanel looks are easy to get without losing all of your savings. Dress like this and you will be rocking the Chanel look.
